Frances Castorina, 102, of Wayne, passed away on June 25, 2020, just days shy of her 103rd birthday. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Born and raised in Passaic, Frances was the daughter of Anthony and Anna Comito. She worked for 23 years as a sample maker at Goldberg’s slipper factory in Hackensack while raising her daughters Barbara and Judy. Later in life she became the oldest employee of State Fair in Belleville at 93 years old, known to all as Grandma Fran. She was an avid baker and cook best known for her cream puffs, apple cake, and homemade chicken soup. Her sponge cakes with whipped cream and coconut were celebrated at all occasions. Her contagious smile always lit up the room. As a member of the Wayne Golden Age Club she especially enjoyed happy hour, cards, and rummikub with her dear friends from Siena Village.
Frances is lovingly survived by her daughters, Barbara Troast and her husband Douglas, and Judy Chudik; her sisters, Mildred Gulizio and Marion Sasso; her grandchildren, Dawn Troast, Jean Day, Jackie Seugling, and Max Troast; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Castorina; her brothers, Mickey and Charles Comito; and her sister, Carmela Citero.
A memorial service will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Therese of Lisieux Church at 120 Monroe Ave in Cresskill, NJ, 07626 would be greatly appreciated by her family.
